Membership with a purpose

Tri-Alpha is a national honor society that recognizes the academic achievements of first-generation college students. At Mines, our purpose extends beyond recognition. We are building a community where students can find guidance, share experiences, and navigate college alongside people who understand what it means to be the first.

Who is eligible?

Undergraduate students may be eligible for induction if they:

  • Are current degree-seeking students at Colorado School of Mines
  • Have completed at least 30 undergraduate credit hours
  • Have earned an overall GPA of 3.2 or higher
  • Come from a family in which neither parent nor legal guardian earned a bachelor’s degree in the United States

Transfer students must have completed at least one full-time term at Colorado School of Mines.

More than an honor society

You do not need to be an inducted member to attend most Tri-Alpha events. All Mines students interested in connecting with and supporting the first-generation community are welcome to participate.
